Send Deb Henry @ Transit Conference

As many of you know, I am passionate about the role of transportation in our community.

I am trying to attend the bienniel Transit Initiatives and Communities Conference so that I can bring the tools and resources back to our community here in Utah.

Any funds donated will be matched.

Why should you help me? Well...

I am the President of the Board of Directors of the Bicycle Collective in Salt Lake City. The mission of the Bicycle Collective for the last 13 years has been to promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and as a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. The Collective provides refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community, focusing on children and lower income households. The Bicycle Collective is growing quickly as many things are happening around us like the PRATT trail and more people finding out about our mission. Better infrastructure and public awareness helps cyclists ride safer.  Find out more at www.bicyclecollective.org

Since not everyone has the ability to ride a bike, I also believe in equitable pedestrian and trails availability. Access to transit can be the difference between a job and supportive homelessness services or poverty. It can also be the difference betwen an untenable domestic violence situation or someone who is able to live and work on their own with the support of a social justice organization.

Transportation diversity is also critical to our future. The environmental impact of transport is significant because it is a major user of energy, and burns most of the world's petroleum. This creates air pollution, including nitrous oxides and particulates, and is a significant contributor to global warming through emission of carbon dioxide, for which transport is the fastest-growing emission sector. By subsector, road transport is the largest contributor to global warming.

The Center for Transportation Excellence conducts the biennial Transit Initiatives and Communities (TIC) Conference to bring together transit agencies, local officials, transportation supporters, advocates, and ballot measure campaign professionals to discuss the latest information on transportation ballot measures. Conference sessions offer insights into recent elections and key trends shaping campaigns. Sessions are interactive and provide extensive case studies. TIC is an excellent opportunity for networking and practical learning.

Who should attend: representatives from transit agencies, local officials, transportation supporters, transportation advocates, and ballot measure campaign professionals
