The kids of Bar Harbor, Maine need a decent playground.
No, they deserve a decent playground, and we are positive that they are going to get one.
The Park Street Playground Project is about to head into high gear and we desperately need your help.
While the Bar Harbor/MDI Rotary Club has pledged its financial support and volunteer effort to make this playground happen, this is truly meant to be a community project that has started and continued because of one awesome mom - Amy Schwartz.
Amy (is not writing this post, Rotary is) has done so much work with some equally cool volunteers along with Alan Mogridge at the MDI YMCA and Kate Hall Jordan. We refuse to let their efforts go to waste.
We want and need your help.
The playground is old, unchallenging, and not much fun. There are a couple of swings, a slide, and a lot of plastic toys that people have abandoned there. There's a climbing structure, and a giant tractor tire.
That's about it.
People who live a block away from the playground will drive their kids miles away to use another one. That's not right.
This needs to change.
We'll be updating this GoFundMe and our Facebook pages with financial information and pricing for equipment, so that everyone can see exactly how much things cost.
We need so much help to get this done. Our kids deserve a healthy and safe and fun place to play. Why?
Good playgrounds mean healthy kids. Healthy kids mean smarter kids with better futures. Kids with better futures means a stronger, more vital year-round community.
We can do this. We should do this. We will do this. Our kids and our neighbors' kids need us to do this.
Even a dollar gets us closer to our goal of $175,000. We've raised over $30,000 so far. But we have a long way to go and our kids are missing out. We hope to start this rebuild in 2017. We can do it, but not on our own. It takes a community to make good kids, healthy kids, kind kids. Let's be that community.
