Saving Milo's Life

Donation protected
Milo is a 2 year old Pitbull/Boxer mix. My husband and I got him shortly after we got married in 2013. He is full of personality and spunk! All of our friends and family absolutely LOVE him. His Vet also adores him as well! He's so loving towards everyone he meets... That is, after he stops being shy if he has just met you.

Milo was bitten by a baby rattlesnake while on a fun hike with his family. I know what your thinking, well at least it was just a baby rattlesnake and not a full grown snake right? I thought that too, but boy was I wrong. Turns out, getting bitten by a baby rattlesnake is so much worse because baby's have no control over how much venom they release when bitting. In fact, most of the time, when a baby rattlesnake bites, it releases ALL of its venom. Poor Milo took a hefty dose.

When Milo was bitten, we were mid-hike. We had a good mile or so left to get back to the car. We immediately went into "save mode". Milo's dad (my husband) right away picked him up, put him over his shoulders, and ran down the hill as fast as he could. Milo is 65 pounds. Not the easiest fellow to carry while running. I had our other dog with me. I followed behind, running as fast as I could with our other dog. We managed to get Milo to the Vet within 25 minutes of it happening, thanks to my husband.

Milo's case was worse than most. His animal emergency hospital doctor even noted that Milo's case was one for the books. It wasn't like usual rattlesnake bites. His symptoms were much more severe than a typical case. Just when it would seem like Milo was doing better, he would take a turn for the worst. For 4 days Milo and his family fought for his life. Those days were filled with many emotions. Milo's face, neck, and chest swoll so bad. He didn't look anything like himself. Finally, after 3 viles of Antivenom, a Plasma Transfusion, and many liquids and medications... Milo finally showed signs of improvement.

Milo is finally back home with his family. He still has lots of healing to do. He has severe "bruising" all over his lips, gums, neck, chest, and legs. He has to be careful not to bang himself on anything so he doesn't bruise more and he can't get any cuts. It can be life threatening to him right now. We are watching him closely and making sure he is comfortable so he can rest. His body still has a lot of fighting to do.

We are so happy he is home with us now. But as with everything, there is always a price, and Milo's is high. His emergency hospital bill was just over $5,000. I left my job recently to go back to school and get my real estate license so I am not working at this time. We need help paying Milo's "life saving" bill. We would greatly appreciate any help we can get.
