TRAK'D Camp

What's TRAK'D?
TRAK'D is a tax exempt under section 501(c)(3)nonprofit designed to improve the quality of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) education within its community and to provide a source from which the parents and youth of every community can benefit. Founded by Lachelle Waller, PhD of Chester, VA, TRAK'D seeks to increase exposure to the sciences for students in the surrounding area through its commitment to: 

1) Assisting parents, especially those in underserved communities, prepare their children in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) 

2) Preparing the youth in our community for STEAM careers 

The not for profit business  initiatives of TRAK’D are designed to help build family awareness and address the importance of STEM and Arts (STEAM) and life goals. It is essential and very important to reach students early, to engage them successfully and allow them to consider STEAM career paths. 

What We Do
We conduct workshops for children and their parents to explore the STEAM fields and increase their interest and knowledge of them.
The "Full STEAM Ahead" Summer Camp Program brings together students, educators, community partners and volunteer STEAM mentors to help young students explore STEAM fields and learn the importance of staying active in an informal, fun, engaging, hands on environment.

Full STEAM Ahead is a novel summer enrichment program for underrepresented, underserved 1st - 3rd grade students in Chesterfield County, Virginia.  Program activities will successfully engage youth who are not typically targeted by STEAM programs early on, helping build their awareness of STEAM fields as a potential career path before they enter middle and high school.  In addition to providing educationally appropriate activities to stimulate interest in STEAM, Full STEAM Ahead will promote opportunities for physical activity for student's ages 6-to 8-year-old.

The Full STEAM Ahead Summer Program is an effort to address the rapidly increasing poverty among eastern Chesterfield, Virginia and provide equitable opportunities for all children.  Your help is needed to make this opportunity a reality, promote change in a community and impact the lives of our future generation of STEAM leaders. 


You and the Future of TRAK'D 
We need $12000.00 to host a summer camp for 30 students, grades 1-3 

The funding will be used to provide the following:

Staff Expenses
Nurse and Dietitian
Supplies (Office and Operating)
Advertising
Insurance
Training 
Background Checks 


The Impact
Its so easy to overlook the poverty that exists in what's known as affluent areas.  There are no summer STEAM programs available for youth in the South Chesterfield Virginia area.  TRAKD is dedicated to bringing STEAM opportunities to this area with your help.   Every donation will go toward executing the much needed camp and addressing the summer slide to bridge the achievement gap that may take place among children from high poverty areas.

Previous Events 
During this TRAK'D event, students learned all about DNA, how it impacts everyone's individuality and what is passed down from their parents, and how to make their own double-helix structures from candy! They also learned lab safety protocol and engaged in a lab that allowed them to extract DNA from fruit!
