My name is Emma Cox. I am 17 years old, and a grade 12 student at Glendale High School. I have recently been accepted to be a part of Junior Team Canada for their upcoming Trade Mission to China.
On this mission, Junior Team Canada will touch down in four major Chinese cities; Chongqing, Chengdu, Kunming, and Hong Kong.
Global Vision is the national charitable organization that operates the Junior Team Canada program (JTC). Since 1991 the program has provided over 30,000 Canadian youth with the skills, experience and knowledge they need to compete in the global economy.
Forty of Canada’s most talented youth have been selected in a nation-wide competition with hundreds of applicants to represent their communities as Ambassadors on a JTC trade mission to China this summer. While abroad, the team will promote Canadian industry and culture to Chinese business, government and community leaders.
Each Ambassador is responsible for partnering with businesses and organizations in their communities to raise $5, 500 in sponsorship for the team, representing approximately half of their total individual cost of participating. Global Vision funds the remaining half through national and regional partnerships. In return for sponsorship, Ambassadors work to further their partner’s brand in China and deliver on specific mandates while obtaining on-the-ground contacts and market intelligence. Upon their return to Canada, Ambassadors debrief with their partners to present opportunities identified, contacts, market reports and their newfound knowledge. For businesses or organizations, partnering with a Junior Team Canada Ambassador isn’t just a goodwill initiative, it’s very much a value-added partnership!
Global Vision’s Junior Team Canada Trade Ambassadors, aged 16-25, are driven to challenge the status quo with innovation, skills, and solutions - a competitive advantage for the promotion of Canadian industry in the global marketplace. I will be extensively trained through an internationally recognized program and a support network of established leaders from business, government, and education, to help local businesses to go global. Through international trade missions, Global Vision has provided countless businesses with on-the-ground market intelligence and key contacts necessary for success in over 30 foreign markets.
Tasked with meeting the mandates of our partners from back home, I will be representing Tillsonburg, Ontario, and Canada on a global scale, and connecting local businesses and organizations with business opportunities, partners, and providing on-the-ground intelligence to engage them in the Chinese market. This is a great opportunity, not only for myself, but for the community. It is a chance to grow and strengthen our economy.
As previously stated, to be part of Junior Team Canada, it is my responsibility to raise $5,500.00 in corporate and community sponsorships and partnerships. The money pays for round-trip flight fare, accommodations, all meals, supervision, programming, materials, and all logistics costs, and my sponsors receive valuable information and connections in return.
The purpose of the mission is to introduce youth from all over Canada to international business, trade, and communications, while at the same time, helping to strengthen Canada’s economy by assisting Canadian businesses expand their reach into the Chinese market.
Representing Tillsonburg overseas would be incredible, and I would love to give the businesses here the chance to grow.
I must have a $2,500 deposit by May 30th, another $1,500.00 by June 27th, and the remainder of the $5,500, the required sum, by July 18th. The departure for China is July 27th, and we return on August 14th.
