Due to budget constraints, it was necesary for the City to cut the funding to plant and maintain the annual boulevard gardens on Grandview Avenue. This includes planting, weeding, watering, trimming, mulching and general gardening upkeep. It is our goal to raise enough funds to adequately finance the planting and maintenance of these gardens that are the focal point of one of Dubuque's longest parks. Our focus will be planting the annual beds with lush and hardy perennial gardens. We are seeking sponsorships and contributions for these gardens that help to beautify this thoroughfare that is enjoyed by pedestrians and motorists alike.

We have had a few meetings with the Park and Rec department. We are working through the plan that will allow us to pay to have the gardens professionally put in the almost 50 gardens on Grandview and Plymouth Court. The like the perennial bed design the Great Plains Landscaping has done. However the city is "tweaking it" a bit with other flower options and changing the size for easier maintenance. We will go back to the city council on Monday for final approval.

We will have a bank account at Premier Bank and all of our funds donated will be tax deductible using the non-profit from the Community Foundation. Starting Tuesday you can drop off your donations to any Premier Bank made out to the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION / FLOWER FUND. or by following the Go Fund Me, all funds collected will go to the payment of the project.

All volunteers will need to adhere to some simple safety rules and guidelines by the city. We will be required to water and weed this year. Trim and weed next year and after that we should be back in the city budget!

The Peonies are not effected by the budget cuts. They are paid for as part of a trust from EB Lyons. The peonies get only about $2000. annualy from that trust for the care and maintinace of just those beds.
