Jack & Other Dogs Need Help

Already struggling to pay off a $7,000 vet bill, Heartland was hit hard when one of our Goldens, Jack (pictured above) required emergency care at an Emergency Clinic adding an additional $4,000 that we need to raise.


Gus (above) is a purebred yellow Labrador Retriever that just entered the Heartland program. His last owners found him as a stray, had him neutered and did the best they could until they hit hard times and had to move out of their rental property. A neighbor was checking up and feeding him but Gus needs TLC and his own forever home.  Gus, who is skin and bones, will stay at our clinic until he has put on some weight and is in better health.



Jones (above) another newbie to our program, is high heartworm positive and until he has received his second treatment will also be staying at the vet clinic.

Over the years, Heartland has rescued many dogs in deplorable circumstances, including Nelson.  He was found as a stray in a very rural area of Tennessee during one of the worst winters in memory.  Nelson was very emaciated, his feet were cracked and bleeding and he would not have survived on his own for much longer. 

Heartland Golden Retriever Rescue is a 501 (c) 3 all-volunteer organization based in East Tennessee.  Our mission is to re-home Golden Retrievers and Golden mixes who have been abandoned or whose owners can no longer care for them.  Dogs with special needs and seniors hold a unique place in our hearts.  On average, we will spend over $900 for each rescue that does not have extraordinary medical conditions.  For dogs with extraordinary medical conditions such as  Gus, Jack and Nelson it is much more.  Unfortunately, their adoption fees will not come close to covering these costs.
