Wauwatosa West's We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution Team would like to thank you!!
The 2013-2014 Wauwatosa West We the People class would like to sincerely thank you for your contribution and support towards our trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Finals at George Mason University. Thanks to people like you we were able to help cover a significant amount of the cost of the trip for all the kids in the class ensuring that all could participate in the National Finals.
Your generosity allowed our class to focus on the academic side of the competition rather than being too bogged down in the fund raising portion. The class spent tireless hours preparing to represent Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and the friends and families that supported us. During the course of second semester the kids came in before school, over lunch periods, after school, weekends and gave up parts of their spring break time in order to ensure that we would perform at our very best. Competing in Washington D.C. were each State Champion and the Champions from the District of Columbia for a total of 56 of the best teams in the country.
Our efforts paid off tremendously as the class finished 16th in the nation. Unit 2 earned the Unit 2 Award for their stellar performance over the first two days of the competition. The members of that group included Alec Kirtley, Sarah Lau, Halle Lambeau, Ashley Summers and Sabrina Black. We just missed out on several other recognitions including the team Regional Award by 10 points and finished only 66 points away from 10th place in a competition that is worth 2,160 points. Unit 2 and 3 both had higher two day total scores than 6 of the Top Ten team’s units and 11 of the Top 15 team’s scores with both ending up with the 5th best scores in the nation for their unit.
After competing our class was able to go on to see many monuments, memorials and museums during our time in Washington D.C. Though the weather was rainy, we were still able to make the most of the sightseeing and have an enjoyable time. The class really bonded as a group on the trip and the students will take with them many fond memories from this whole experience. The entire trip was a chance of a lifetime.
