ER bills in Tisha's memory

Donation protected
Have you ever seen a 60 yo army veteran crying?

I met the owner of Tisha, in front of our building where we regularly walk our cats together. Mister E., Tisha's owner, is a 60 year-old army veteran who served our country and others around the World his whole life, and as any army veteran, he is now left alone surviving on a ridiculously small welfare with 2 Himalayan kitties at home that he calls his best buddies.

Friday night Mister E., called me to say that Tisha wasn't feeling well. Our landlord and I decided to have a quick check on him when we discovered that Tisha, a 11 months old Himalayan kitty, couldn't walk and was crying in pain. We both knew that the owner had no money to take him to ER and that he would have to wait until Monday morning to see a regular vet. After a quick look at him we thought it looked like poisining from grass or pesticides and that Tisha had good chances to make it throught with proper vet care. I quickly called the K911 vet ambulance and sent him to the Animal Hospital DMV, South of Montreal.

Without hesitating I paid $251.80 for the ambulance and thought that would be enough to help him get proper vet care for Tisha. An hour later, the DMV called me to give me the blood tests result and also asked me to pre-pay a $500 deposit for the admission of Tisha to the Hospital. Tisha was unresponsive and hypothermic, and the blood tests result were just devastating. It wasn't poisining, Tisha was dying from a terrible disease that remained undetected despite regular visit to the vet.

On the top of that, the DMV stated it clear that without a deposit they wouldn't do anything for him and would just let him die in pain. I negotiated to pay a $50 upfront in exchange to keep Tisha at the DMV for one night until Mister E. manage to get there the following morning, meanwhile, I reached out to group of animal lovers and other foundations.

Tisha tests results were showing low blood sugar and low levels of enzymes. He had a big belly swallowed, he was very skinny and could barely move. After few negotiations, they gave him a bolus of sugar and waited for a go sign from someone to put upfront $500 to start him on fluids and antibiotics for the night.

I'm not the owner of Tisha and just tried to help him as much as I could.. the hospital called me again Friday late at night and said that ER fees were now at $500 and that it will cost more than $1,000 to just give him fluids until the next morning, which they wouldn't do unless they have an active credit cards on file.

The following morning, Mister E., went to the DMV to talk options and best care for Tisha, when he was told that Tisha was in a critical condition and had 3 bolus of sugar the whole night to keep him alive. No fluids, no antibiotics, no pain killer, nothing that would have helped him either way, and Mister E., has been told that maintaining Tisha alive would cost him about $1,000 per day without guarantee he would make it because we still did not know exactly what disease was taking Tisha away from him.

Seeing Tisha in pain, he took the decision to let him go.. After 24 hours of pain, Tisha finally had a painless goodbye in his owner's arms. Hours later, Mister E. came back and told me in tears "That's it, there's no more Tisha, he was my best buddy".

I'm only a 31 years old research assistant who switched to research when I was in med school. I've helped people caught in car accidents several times and never asked them to pay me so I can save them, human ER just does not work that way. I'm outraged and never expected such treatments for a kitty who was dying.

It only hurts so much and now I'm helpless to him and his owner. I'm just crying and praying that you will see this donation page and that you can help him one last time. Mister E. is devastated and cannot afford the expensive vet bills, I want to give him the opportunity to make his grief without burden. Both suffered enough through their life, please help them, in Tisha's memory.

Thank you,
Marina
