We are a registered 501(c)3 organization. Our purpose is to afford homeless veterans the opportunity and resources to rebuild and restructure their civilian lives, including, but not limited to, providing temporary shelter, counseling, and related services.

A Voice for our Veterans
King 5's News Story on us! Another Story about our goals on KONP Thanks to the PDN! The Local Community has been SO supportive! The First Story done on our project by the PDN!
The military holds a place near and dear to me. To this day the men and women I served with are still some of the people closest to my heart. We trained together, we played together. We shared experiences that men and women that have not served may never be able to relate to. We know with a wink and a nod that there is a bond between us that will never be broken. That is true for all veterans. When one vet meets another for the first time we can always count on giving each other a hard time if they were in a different branch of the service. If we were in the same branch, then we’ll make fun of each other’s job. If we had the same job, we’ll knock the other person’s unit.

However, I have noticed for some reason my fellow men and women that have served in our Armed Forces are not being treated the way they should be. Not by the average person. Not by you and I. I dare say that to the best of my knowledge the vast majority of people in the United States go out of their way to tell service men and women that they appreciate their service. We lift the veterans and the active duty military up in our thoughts, our prayers. We buy them lunches, we pay for their coffee when we see them. We recognize the sacrifice they have made and give them the honor they have earned.

But that is not the case with the government for some reason. We’ve all read the headlines. We’ve heard the horror stories. Veterans today are taking their lives at a rate of 20 per day. We can give them a hand up. This, in my opinion, is a black eye on our country. It’s a sin that the leaders of our great nation have allowed it to get to this level, and as of right now, IF they even talk about it, that is ALL they do. I can make an effort. We can make an effort.

Our goal is to get those homeless veterans that desire to be off the streets a home while they take a year to get their lives back on track. We started with a plan of a neighborhood of tiny homes with a central building - a gathering place and a place for counseling, meetings and fellowship. It has turned in to much more than that. Offerings of service dogs for veterans, a desire for onsite job training in construction, a doctor, attorney and law enforcement official joining our Board, and countless phone calls offering assistance. Our Board of 7 takes no salary. Every penny raised goes to this mission and we are grateful for their help.

We are raising money to purchase the right property & build these tiny houses to accomplish our dream of ending homelessness for veterans in our area. We would love nothing more than to provide them a safe place to sleep, access to the services that are available to them and a hand up. Although there are a number of pieces of land out there, not many have the utilities within reach. This is the challenge in our beautiful North Olympic Peninsula.

This is an endeavor born out of a passion to serve. Not just this country, not just this community, but that part of us that has sacrificed, or been willing to sacrifice, in order to help keep it that beacon, that “Light on the Hill”.
