Cycling for Change.

Last year, I decided to participate in the Tour de Valley as my first official Century Ride. Instead of solely using this opportunity as a chance to get some exercise, I decided that I could make a change in our area. I partnered with WARM (Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry), and helped to raise $2,000 for their shelter. I did the sixty-three mile race not only to raise change for the shelter, but also to change the mentality and stigma that goes with being in a shelter.

I made some great friends, helped out those in need, and was able to see that I have a higher purpose. On my time on this planet, I am going to make a positive change, one way or another. This year, I choose to make a change in our future.

I will be riding in the Tour de Valley this year to help raise funds for Waynesboro YMCA Childcare. The YMCA will always hold a place near and dear to my heart; I met the love of my life there, helped me grow both as a person and as a man, and also helped shape in ways, the husband, father and person that I am today.
These children are our future. They will shape this planet, live to see many changes that are just now starting to take effect, and have many more opportunities than some of our generation did. The YMCA Childcare does a phenomenal job of raising young leaders and role models; I saw this first hand during my time there as a preschool teacher, teen center leader and off site director.
