For those of you that don't know me, my name is Lee. I am a political/radical youth organizer in New York City. I am reaching out to all of you for support for donations so that I can regain access into my home.
My mother moved to North Carolina in October 2012 and the apartment was left under my name. My older brother moved into my apartment in November 2012. At first, things were going good. However, fast forward a couple of months later, the living environment became extremely hostile due to continuous arguments regarding every day living issues, and how the rent was going to be split and paid. After no resolution, I found myself compromising myself and my home to benefit their selfish needs.
Though I went away for the holidays, the arguments and harassment from my family continued. Right before returning to New York, I was kicked out of my own apartment. When I returned to the apartment early that morning, I found my room door completely broken off of the hedges. At this point, I not only feared for my safety, but I had no privacy.
I was uncertain about where I was going stay until I was lucky enough to find some friends who had an extra room to rent out. I am now paying rent in two places. I am juggling paying off my backed up rent my mother left when she moved, my current rent for my apartment, and for the room I am renting out at my friends' apartment, while my brother and his family are staying my apartment rent free. Though I have been working temporary jobs, it has been extremely difficult to pay for all of this alone and provide for myself (i.e. clothes, food, etc.).
While I am extremely grateful to have somewhere to stay, this is a temporary living situation. I may have an amazing opportunity to work full-time with an amazing organization, but if I am hired, I cannot stay here because it is a conflict of interest.
With all of this being said, I cannot go any further with the process of legally removing my brother from my apartment until I pay my back rent is paid off. The amount that is owed is $1,000, but I am asking for donations from all of you in order to reach a goal of $500.
Your donations mean more than just paying off my rent. It means that I have a greater chance of landing my dream job and starting my career as an youth organizer. If my goal is reached, it means that I can finally have a home of my own - a basic human necessity and something I have never had. I can finally be at peace and have some stabilty. Landing this job means going to sleep knowing that I am not only working to change the world, but I don't have to worry about how I am going to provide for myself. Having a place of my own means that, for once, I don't have to worry about where I am going to lay my head at night and I can actually work on sustaining myself and taking care of my mental health. Your donations will literally change my life.
Thank you for taking the time out to read this. Thank you in advance for your donations. And thank you for all your care, love, and support.
