The People Trail Project

Donation protected
An advocate for healthy lifesytles, the Columbus, Indiana community boasts an impressive people trail system. However, the nearly 27 miles of trail remain completely unlit. To the average recreational user, this lack of light is insignificant, but for those dependent on the trails as their primary means of transportation, the hazards of the dark are widespread.

Following the trails while biking in to morning practice over the summer, I became personally aware of the extent of this darkness. After learning the city did not plan to act, I designed “The People Trail Project,” an initiative for installing emergency phones and illuminating all 27 miles of people trail.

However, I recognize that this endeavor is no small financial undertaking.  By organizing 5K events and community presentations, I am generating large-scale awareness for the risks posed by unlit people trails to give this project the long-term sustainability success demands. In order for this project to take flight, it is going to require a joint effort by the entire community.  Only together can we light the night for generations to come. Will you join the effort?
