Derek has seen some improvement over the weekend! They started chemo on Friday. The goal was to make sure he didn't throw up. His stomach is so tight that throwing up could do some damage. He even got his energy back a little over the weekend and was sure to play with Captain America and Spiderman. Derek also left the ICU. The doctors want to make sure he can breathe comfortably and eat solid foods before he is able to come home and they are guessing that will be this weekend.
Thank you all for your donations and we are so close to our goal! Thank you!

A video of Derek being able to play with his toys again can be found at:

Derek had a bit of rough day today (Friday May 10). His tumor was diagnosed as a wilms tumor. The doctors also said he has stage 4 cancer due to the tumor on his kidney and a dark spot on his lung. His chemo therapy was pushed back until tonight because his ruptured tumor wouldn't stop bleeding. The doctors believe, that as of tonight, the bleeding has either slowed significantly or stopped altogether. As you can imagine he is uncomfortable, but he's a trooper. As long as he has Spider Man and Captain America are in his hand he can find the courage to smile! Thank you for the support and generosity! Hopefully tomorrow will bring better news.

On May 8, 2013 doctors found a tumor the size of a grape fruit attached to Derek's kidney. The doctors in American Fork rushed him up to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. The tumor is pressing on other organs and making it inoperable for the time being. Friday May 10, 2013 The doctors began chemo therapy on this two-year old baby boy to shrink the tumor. Derek's fight has just begun but his herculean effort will be second to none! Your donation of any size helps to ensure that Derek's life is not permanently marred by this cancer. Please help in anyway you can. God bless and much love to you from the Fugal family!
