Tattingstone Speed Reduction

Tattingstone is a lovely place to live, however, there is one thing that threatens this on a daily basis - speeding. Those that live here will be all too aware of the issues we have with speeding, sadly this is a problem in all areas of the village. With regular speeds in the excess of 50mph (in a 30mph limit), dangerous and unsociable speeding has caused a number of near misses.
The funds will be used to purchase a Speed Indicator Device (SID) for the village. A SID provides a non-confrontational warning to drivers, warning them of their speed via an LED display and putting social pressure on them to decrease speed when required. Affectionately known as “Smiley SID” it gives a friendly presentation of a serious message, reinforcing safety and educating drivers. It has shown a marked improvement in reducing the speed of cars in neighbouring villages who have invested in a SID. Purchasing a SID for the village will benefit all those that live, visit and pass through our lovely village, whether you are driving, walking or cycling. It will be placed in more than one area around the village
The SID also collects data about the speed of cars and times they go through the village. This will then determine when the Community Speed Watch team carry out their sessions.
There is no time limit on raising the funds, however, the sooner we raise the money, the sooner we can get the SID in place and actively reducing speed. Speeding is a real issue here in Tattingstone and it is only a matter of time until there is a fatality, I don’t want this to be one of our children or family members.
