Help Relief Efforts in Nepal

On 4/25 Nepal was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed 3,800 and counting. The earthquake destroyed many buildings in Kathmandu and many of the neighboring rural villages.  Thousands of people in Nepal are in need of food, water, medicine, and shelter. Relief efforts and, in the future, long-term rebuilding require massive amounts of money. 

In a little less than a month I am running the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, Vermont. I wasn't initially planning on running this race for charity but I was devasted to hear about the disaster in Nepal and want to dedicate this race towards raising funds for the relief efforts in Nepal. I spent three weeks in Nepal in the summer of 2012. The people  were some of the warmest people I've ever met and the country one of the most beautiful places I've visited. I want to help as much as I can while they are struggling to recover from this disaster.

All funds received will be donated to Global Giving's Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.  All donations to this fund will support earthquake recovery and relief efforts in Nepal. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted local organizations. 

I hope to meet my fundraising goal of $1000 in the next week so that I can send the money by the end of next week. However, I will continue to take donations and send them to Global Giving until the date of my marathon on 5/24/2015. If you don't want to donate through me I encourage you to donate to one of the many charities working in Nepal!
