Volunteering at a Moldovan Orphanage

June 2013 i am going to be travelling to Moldova to volunteer in an orphanage for 1 month!....But i need your help to raise £2000 for the trip.
Any donation you can make, however big or small will help me to make a difference to these children s lives while i'm there. I will be involved with caring for the children and teaching them new skills, most importantly giving them a chance to play and be children!
Throughout the next year i will be arranging a number of fundraising activities, all donations for activities i do can be made on this site or given to me directly. My ideas so far include:
- Cake/Cookie sales
- An Abseil/Zipline
- I will be selling home made xmas cards and gift tags
- A second hand sale (time to clear out all those things ive been hoarding in the loft!)
Any suggestions welcome!
The center in Chisinau is home to 200 children with disabilities aged 0-5 years. I will be working with a group pf 15-20 children during my stay.
I hope to use some of my OT skills while i'm there, i am waiting to hear back from the orphanage staff as to whether they would be happy for me to do this, hopefully this would include:
- Taking over any sensory toys i am able to buy with funds raised.
- Taking blankets that the children could sit on on the hot ground.
- Teaching children skills needed everyday
- Using picture symbol communication and basic signs with the children to aid my communication with them during my trip and hopefully leave them with the symbols to use at a later date.
- Looking at group activities i could arrange with the children and other volunteers
- Looking at daily activities that children could do themselves, this sounds really simple, but its also really important!
Total trip Costs: £1824
Extra Funds: Any extra money I can
raise will be used to buy toys, basic sensory equipment, blankets, books etc.
for the children at the orphanages.
