DominicaTropical Storm Erika crisis

Donation protected

The situation:
Sadly, the small Caribbean island of Dominica where our family is from (not the Dominican Republic), was hit by tropical storm Erika on Thursday 28th August 2015. The island sustained unrelenting damage from torrential rain, mass flooding and landslides. The Red Cross’ latest figures indicate a loss of at least 35 lives and millions of dollars in damage. Several people have also been reported missing. Land, roads and bridges have been eroded cutting communication networks across several towns and villages, homes and vehicles have been washed away, both airports were flooded (the main one in fact is still closed) and many people are still without water, electricity and telecommunication.

Our aim:

We hope that this video touches your heart as it did ours. This fundraiser seeks to support the work of the Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW) in their mission to support relief efforts across the island, including the purchase of supplies specific to the needs of women and children displaced in the aftermath of the Storm (eg food and milk for babies) - see weblink for details about their request for support - http://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/general/dncw-requests-supplies-for-women-children/

As Erika has destroyed this beautiful island where my family is from, this fundraiser is extremely important to us.  We will be visiting the island in a few weeks and so any funds raised will be handed over to this charity at this time to help support their continued efforts.

DNCW (whom we have no person relationship with) have also expressed their thanks in advance of any donations.

Blessings!

The Andrew family.
