The increased immigration raids under Trump have put undocumented migrant communities on high alert in major cities across the US. We are building a system compatible with every-day technology that will enable us to form a strong , dedicated and secure response network to further aid the growing resistance to immigration raids and checkpoints across the US.
Key Features
Users can instantly review, verify and share comments on nearby alerts via the mobile app while remaining anonymous.
GPS / Geolocating. Receive alerts within a 1 to 100 mile radius of your GPS location. You can configure your geolocating preferences at any time.
Push notifications. Opt-in to receive app notifications on your phone when an alert is sent out in your area.
Text messaging. Opt-in to receive text message notifications when an alert is sent out in your area.
Legal assistance. You can request immediate legal help on the app from nearby attorneys, civil rights organizations and other similar networks.
Security and Maintaining Anonymity
There are concerns about the U.S. government potentially looking to the app's users as a database to seek out people it plans to deport. For this reason, we are building dedicated telecom systems and custom server hardware to keep users anonymous.
Text Messaging - Using 3rd party systems for text messaging capability increases the risks of message activity being saved and logged on remote servers we do not have full control of. This increases the risk of US Government agencies potentially harvesting such data in attempts to target or track activity of undocumented individuals. Therefor we have decided to build our own dedicated telecom systems and dedicated server hardware without relying on 3rd party gateway’s for connectivity or colocating bandwidth. Our telecom systems utilize WaveCom 2G/3G GSM/GPRS modem hardware for outgoing and incoming text messaging capabilities. Phone numbers are encrypted and never transmitted between outside servers or systems. In other words, the transmission of a phone number only occurs directly between the alert system and mobile phone carriers.
Server hardware - We are developing server hardware capable of high capacity loads while maintaining an encrypted environment to protect against potential break-ins.
Mobile app - While it is recommended that as many people download the mobile app as possible. We urge those who are undocumented to proceed with caution. Downloads from Google Play or the Apple Store are not anonymous. Information related to which apps you’ve downloaded, including time and location can be made readily accessible to government agencies upon request who might seek this information to target and track undocumented individuals. In this case we’ve developed the option for users to receiving alerts by text message without ever having to download the mobile app.
