Steptoe Street Wall Fund

Donation protected
A few months ago Teri Devins (a single mom who takes care of other family members and hasn't been able to find steady work) had someone drive a vehicle into the brick wall behind her house. You may have seen it on Steptoe. The driver was underinsured, the Home Owners Association refuses to help and Teri's hands are tied. Many of us have seen how horrible this hole looks!! If we could all give just $5 to help get this wall fixed we would all benefit!!

FROM KNDU-TV JUST ASK SHANE-
KENNEWICK, WA - We have an update on an eyesore that many of you have sent me questions about. Ron sent me an email asking, "If you drive down Steptoe Street, you will see a big hole in the stone wall, and it's been there for a long time. Is it ever going to get fixed?"

I talked with the homeowner this week, who says this has turned into a legal battle between insurance companies. The accident happened in May 2014 when a pickup truck sideswiped an SUV on Steptoe Street, sending it crashing into the wall.

The problem is the pick-up owner is under-insured and doesn't have enough coverage to pay for the damage to the wall, and the SUV he hit. The homeowner, Terry Devins, is a single mom who's looking for work right now, and doesn't have the money to pay for someone else's mistake.

"Because he's under-insured, unfortunately I'm left holding the bag. His insurance company refuses to pay and because of the damage to this wall and the other gentleman's car, the SUV he pushed through here, we're both at their mercy, and that's ridiculous," Devins said.

An engineer friend of Teri's has shored up the wall so it doesn't fall down, but she says vandals keep kicking out more bricks. Some of you have also asked about the homeowners association, but Columbia Center Estates doesn't charge any HOA dues, so any repairs are the homeowners responsibility. At this point, Teri's insurance company is suing the pickup owner's insurance company to get them to pay for the damage.
