A Solomon Islands filmmaker to AIDC 2013
Help the Solomon Islands tell their own stories. Let's get a Pacific Islands filmmaker to the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) DocWeek aidc.com.au in Adelaide in 2013. Everyone who makes a donation will receive a thank you credit on the AIDC website and on screen before the DocWeek opening night film.
The Solomon Islands is a developing nation in the South Pacific a few hours flight from Australia. It is teeming with an abundance of engaging stories ready to be told. However, with a developing economy reliant largely on international aid, local filmmakers are given no financial support to tell their own stories. So there is almost no independent film production in the Solomons and very few stories that reach the outside world. Those that do are almost never told from the authentic voice of a Solomon Islands filmmaker.
If we can raise the money above, it will allow us to send one local filmmaker to the AIDC where they will be able to attend forums, workshops, network with producers, commissioning editors and other filmmakers. It would be a brilliant start to helping Solomon Islander's understand the value of their own stories and open the doors to an international market.
The AIDC is kindly sponsoring the cost of delegation pass for a Solomon Island's filmmaker and if this is a success, have plans to expand this opportunity to other filmmakers across the Pacific region. This campaign hopes to raise enough funds for airfares, visas, insurance, accommodation and stipend for the chosen filmmaker.
The filmmaker chosen to attend the AIDC will be affiliated with the Honiara Filmmakers Group and be chosen via a competitive process adjudicated by the AIDC.
