Cleft and Burn repair in Pakistan

We Repair Lives With Simple Surgery.

The surgery we do is often simple, but it improves the quality of life for these children many fold. A congenital cleft can reduce the nutrition a child consumes. And because of the surgery they will be able get an education, a job and be part of society, instead of being shunned. Burn victims we work with can be given a greater range of mobility and less chronic pain.

Most Bengali's and Pakistanis with cleft deformities are from the more rural areas of the nation. Many don't even know that clefts can be repaired; those who do are often unable to access or afford care. Smile Bangladesh is dedicated to providing free care for these individuals by supporting volunteer surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses who travel to rural and urban areas of Bangladesh and Pakistan to repair facial clefts.

In addition, Smile Bangladesh and Smile Pakistan train local doctors to properly care for these children after our mission has ended.

Who we are.

The doctors of Smile Bangladesh are Shahid R. Aziz, DMD, MD, FACS, Sam T. Rhee, MD, Evonne Greenidge, MD and Jose M. Marchena, DMD, MD. They are veterans of surgical trips to Bangladesh and will form the core of training doctors and advisors for the pioneering Smile Pakistan missions.  Smile Bangladesh is a 501c3 nonprofit.  Through GoFundMe all donations will be deposited with Smile Bangladesh.  Your donations will be tax deductable.

What you can do to help right now.

We are asking for your assistance to fund our first Cleft and Burn trip to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. We just returned from a research trip to Pakistan and have great plans for the next mission. A full-scale mission is planned for March of 2018. 

We will take a team of Smile Bangladesh doctors and nurses into Islamabad, where we have a team of people already identifying patients who need our help. Local hospitals are graciously donating the space needed by our doctors in ORs and recovery rooms.  

Each mission requires about $35,000. During the research and mission, images and video will be created by a  professional photographer and videographer, for fund raising and website development to increase awareness. We plan to continue missions, so building a following is part of our plan.

Donations will be used for supplies needed, housing and food for the team while on the mission.  Aslo, as the story is very important, part of the donations will be used to document the work of these great mission.
