Healing "Super Skyler" Kash

This is the first news shared with friends and family after Alex and Levon's world was flipped upside down a few months ago.

Wednesday May 20th 2015:

We found out the most devastating news that any parent could ever hear. Skyler Kash has a 2 inch brain tumor in his lower right cerebellum next to his brain stem. The only symptom that led us to the hospital was projectile vomiting, so imagine the shock when we found out it was a tumor causing the vomiting, not a bug or food, but a tumor.
We were fortunate that the experienced pedeatrician on call odered a CT scan within minutes of walking into the ER and a few hours later was rushed into emergency surgery to have a bp shunt placed. A sub cutaneous tube from his brain to his stomach that relieves pressure by draining cerebrospinal fluid into his abdomin.  The excess fluid and pressure was causing the vomiting and pain. With the shunt placed we had bought some valuable time that would have otherwise been unavailable...

After a blurry week in hospital they organised a medivac to get from Gran Canaria to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto to see the best neurosurgeons in the world.
Thanks to some Very generous friends they were able to get to Toronto safely and into the best care possible.

It was five very long days in Toronto before the team was able to operate on Sky. Those were some of the toughest days as his condition deteriorated drastically and the happy, smiley son they knew was unrecognizable. Thanks to an amazing neurosurgeon, Dr. Dirks, they were greeted with good news about 5 hours after Skyler went in. The tumor was succesfully removed and another step in the right direction was taken.
Unfortunately the biopsy results came back, and the results were as feared. The tumor being a malignant tumor called ependymoma. This would mean that, although the surgery was succesful, Skyler would have to undergo  six weeks of radiation therapy and continue to be monitered for at least ten years to ensure that the tumor has not grown back.
After a month of recovery in Toronto they were able to fly to Vancouver so that they could prep for Skyler's mom's surgery, for endometriosis, and ready themselves for radiation treatment in Seattle.

Money raised will help them cover some of the expenses that come along with such a life changing event. As both parents have completely lost all income earning possibilities the strain on finances is very real. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Let's make sure Skyler's infectious smile continues to touch everyone around him.
