I’d like to introduce you to Sid Lactao, a college friend and brother in faith of mine. Sid is a hemodialysis patient for more than four years now. In the midst of his struggle, he still works as an Information Officer for a local government in the Philippines to support his family. In his lonesome, Sid thought of writing a book to appease himself from pain and sadness. In his consummate passion for writing, he came up with “101 Little Known Facts About Isabela, Philippines," a book about appreciating one's native land and people. The book's completion encouraged him to aggressively fight for a longer and more satisfying and productive life rather than stare at the shadow of death. He knew he would have to take a better fighting chance through kidney transplant, with his wife as the donor, rather than undergo dialysis for the rest of his life. His friends and I are working to generate $25,000 to provide Sid's 6-month recovery care following the transplant that will save his life. While his insurance will cover the procedure itself, it is the post-medication that is expensive which he needs to pay himself. Sid has 2 school-age daughters, so he also needs support to sustain his family for the time when he will not be able to work.
