Sharpsburg Police K-9 Unit

Donation protected

The Sharpsburg Police Department is seeking assistance in raising funds to implement and support our new K9 program. Officer Jeffrey Hussar has been tasked with becoming the departments first K-9 Handler. Jeffrey has been with the Sharpsburg Police Department since 2013, spending 3 years part-time and has been full-time since Sept. 2016.

He and his K-9 partner will be required to complete a rigorous 6 week training and certification program.

The course is designed to meet or exceed national best practice standards and will focus on narcotic detection along with tracking and patrol work. The K-9 team will earn multiple certifications through:

*   National Police Canine Association.
*   North American Police Work Dog Association.

Theses certifications will insure that the Sharpsburg Police Department's K-9 unit can operate in a legally sound manner and in accordance with current case law at both the State and Federal levels.

Working closesly with a K-9 Master Trainer and breeder, a K-9 will be selected so that it will meet the needs of the Borough of Sharpsburg and surrounding areas, which are:

*   Obedience and social temperament.
*   Narcotics Detection.
*   Tracking.
*   Patrol work.

Our goal is to raise at least $25,000.00 Dollars to implement, certify and maintain our K-9 Unit into the future, meeting the highest possible standards. We greatly appreciate any donation, which will allow us to deliver these specialized and important services to Sharpsburgh Borough and the surrounding municipalities.
