Share The Sky - Remote Observatory

Donation protected

We want to open a telescope observatory in Key West, FL which will be available for FREE use via internet.

Key West is an ideal night sky viewing location, far from light pollution (150NM from city lights). But the cost of traveling to a remote observatory can be astronomical!

Solution: Internet + computerized telescope to provide remote viewing to urban observers around the world. Free-of-charge to students, amateur astronomers, and curious minds.

We are local volunteers who want to make our beautiful Key West night sky available to everyone. Anyone wanting to explore deep space galaxies, nebulae, or simply view the rings of Saturn, should have the resources to do so in our modern age. The next Galileo or Edwin Hubble may be an inner city thinker living under a polluted sky.

We are seeking funding for a 14" HD Computerized Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and internet connection equipment. The web connection and maintenance will be provided by volunteers living in Key West, FL.

The observatory will be free for anyone to use online via PC or iOS/Android Celestron SkyPort application. Users will be able to discover planets, explore and photograph the Universe by saving images directly to their device or request volunteer assistance with long exposure astrophotography.
