Help forcibly evicted seniors!

The elderly, the disabled and military veterans are being evicted!

America, our citizens, those who are most in need, are being tossed out of their homes, en masse, from a 40-unit apartment complex because the owner wants to rent their apartments to younger and more prosperous tenants.

The owner is doing this purely so he can make more money! He admits in his eviction letters that the tenants have done no wrong and that their wholesale ouster is for his own “economic reasons.”

Many of these elderly, ailing and/or veteran tenants receive Section 8 vouchers with which they pay their rent and the owner states in his letter that he no longer wishes to deal with “Section 8 requirements, paperwork, inspections and attempts to obtain rent increases.” So, not only are the evicted tenants old, sick and war-weary, they are also poor and receiving no relocation funds! The apartment building, at 1625 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, California, is known as the Lafayette Square Apartments LLC and is exempt from rent control rules because it was constructed in 1984. No rent control benefits (such as relocation funds) apply to any building constructed in the city after 1978. This awful situation results from some kind of law passed by the state legislature eons ago and there’s nothing the city can do about it.

Leilani Sashae Zachery, the spokesperson for the group, together with some of the tenants went to a City Council meeting and spoke of their plight during the audience comments portion of a City Council agenda. She said the councilmembers sat politely and listened to their tale of woe but did nothing. “After we spoke, our Councilman Wesson adjoined the meeting for lunch and we’ve not seen nor heard from him or his staff or anybody else from the city since.”

At least one of the tenants is over 90 years old. That's right, 90! Imagine your elderly mother or father being thrown out into the street at 90, after living in their home for more than 20 years, with nowhere to go and no money to relocate even if they had... wouldn't you be outraged?

Please help us to raise just $1600 for each of the 30 tenants - these are elderly, disabled and military veterans - to relocate quickly and not suffer the indignity of forcibly being made homeless.

Thank you so much! Your kindness cannot be put into words.

God bless you.
