Older Adults Meal Program

Shawnee Senior Center, with generous support from Walmart and Shawnee Milling Company, has provided healthy breakfasts and lunches over the past two years to Shawnee’s older adult population. This is only one of our many activities. This news story from Oklahoma Homes gives you a glimpse into our offerings.
Our participants:
- can meet new people or old friends
- eat tasty, healthy meals
- form friendships and socialize in a homelike atmosphere rather than sitting at home – alone and lonely.
Over the last two years - Shawnee Senior Center has provided in excess of 15,000 meals to people who cross the full economic spectrum of older adults, 50 years of age and better!
In June, when our Walmart grant funds were completed, we began charging $2 p/person for lunches. We have also begun hosting Community Meetings in our facility. Those attendees pay $7 p/person which has contributed to our meals program and we continue to provide both breakfast and lunch.
Most of our seniors live on fixed incomes at or below the poverty level. All donations will support our Meals Program:
1) serving over 7500 meals per year
2) provide jobs for two (2) staff positions as they shop and prepare fresh healthy meals for our older adults and care for our greenhouse.
3) providing much needed kitchen equipment & renovation to continue the meal service.

Grant funds are pending and we continue to seek grant funds to support our programs and services. Your generous donations will give us the time to seek funds without discontinuing meal service. Senior Citizens of Shawnee, Inc., aka Shawnee Senior Center, is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
