The San Diego Toy and Doll Museum is a nonprofit public benefit organization that is dedicated to promoting the importance of play in the development of our children. We do this by preserving and artistically displaying toys and dolls of the past. We conduct educational tours for children, parents and grandparents in order to promote intergenerational bonding among family members.
Our mission is founded on research that documents the important role that play has on the development of children. Play is universal - no matter what age, sex or entnicity, kids love to play. The science shows that play is a foundation for learning in children and a key factor on the development of their social interaction skills. In today's busy society it is not uncommon for families to have two working parents, or in many cases only a single parent. Similarly, school funding often results in reduced amounts of "free play" or other creative development programs for children. As a result, play for many children is focused on television, electronic devices or organized sports. Each of these can contribute to the development of kids, but not in the same way that free play does.
Through the generous donations of our supporters
we have opened the inaugural sight of the San Diego Toy and Doll Museum in Poway, California, located just outside of San Diego. In the short time we have been opened, we have begun attracting supporters from throughout the Country and many international visitors.
Our objective is to raise sufficient funds so that we can expand our facilities to include more space for interactive "Play Stations" where children and their parents can play together. Each play station will be designed to highlight different aspects of play that help to foster different developmental skills. The total cost of the expansion will be substantial, however this campaign will help us pursue State, Local and Federal grants.
