Scalp Cooler for Holy Spirit Oncology Unit

Sadly, in November 2017, we lost my beautiful mother Peta to multiple Brain Tumours that originated as Breast Cancer in 2015. Despite her sickness, Mum continued to live just as she always had; happy, positive and loving, with a big infectious smile that lit up the world. During this time, it was never the cancer, radiation or chemotherapy that caused the most distress for her, it was the fact that she would lose her long blonde curls, her eyebrows and eye lashes. Having to not only face the daily treatments, associated side effects and other illnesses, she, along with many men and women undergoing treatment worry about their self image “how will I look bald? What will everyone think of me?” Nothing is more heart breaking than hearing your own mother call herself ugly over a bald head.
Fortunately, the development of a Scalp Cooling machine worn by patients during chemotherapy treatment has been shown to significantly reduce the chances of hair loss with no additional side effects. Studies show the Scalp Cooler to be 89% successful in preventing hair loss during treatment.
Unfortunately these machines are not provided by the Government, and hospitals must individually fundraise $50 000 to purchase these life changing machines.
Our goal is to fundraise at least $5 000, to reach our goal of $10 000, for the Holy Spirit Northside Oncology Department in order to assist in their purchase of a Scalp Cooler.
In our final efforts to reach $10 000, these amazing ladies, Patricia, Ruby, Sophie, Katie and myself will be cutting off 35cm of our hair at the Day Oncology Unit. Whilst our hair will be donated and sent to Variety in order for some beautiful wigs to be made, we ask for your support through donating a couple of dollars.
