Everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by cancer. Dealing with the cancer diagnosis of a friend or loved one is just a part of life. But when you’re young and raising a family, that isn’t the time you expect cancer to rear its ugly head.

My sister-in-law Ashlee is a 32-year-old mom of three: six-year-old twins (a boy and a girl) and a two-year-old baby boy. She is healthy and strong. She eats well; she doesn’t smoke or drink soda or alcohol. She is active — a cyclist, skier, and chaser of kids. And we’ve just found out that she has stage IV colon cancer that has spread to her lymphs.

The doctors are telling us that Ashlee just has just 30 months left with her husband and kids. But as far as Ashlee is concerned, no one can tell her how long she has left. No one can tell her that she can’t beat this. She is strong and she has too much to live for. She is determined to live. And we are determined to do everything we can to help.

In the weeks since Ashlee’s diagnosis, we have found strength in numbers. We’ve been so moved by the prayers, love, compassion and concern that family, friends, and strangers have shown us as we gear up to fight what we know is going to be an uphill battle. Every day, people ask us what they can do to help and, so I started the Saving Ashlee Fund to raise $35,000 that they’ll need help to cover the cost of treatment, therapies, and the added expenses that have already started to pile up as this young mother tries to raise small children while fighting for her life. No donation is too small. If you can’t donate now, pass this along to someone who can.

We know we have a steep hill to climb, but we are up for the challenge. We can’t do it without your help.
