Roller Derby:

Roller Derby conjures up images of violence and mayhem on roller skates for many people. But for Derby Addicts, it means merging of strength, empowerment, fitness, fun, community, acceptance and determination into a force for good. What began as a revival hobby in the early 2000’s has grown in to culture, a female dominated industry and fully fledged sport. WFTDA alone boast over 300 leagues and the 2014 Roller Derby World Cup will host teams from 30 different countries. It is said that people find roller derby when they most need it, and once found, they will never let it go.

Wasatch Roller Derby:

Wasatch Roller Derby was started in 2008 by Honey Delunatic and Medusa Damage to bring the sport of competitive roller derby to Salt Lake City. They aimed to provide a fun and encouraging environment that promoted athleticism while also striving to make an impact amongst smaller charities in Salt Lake City. From two skaters, the Wasatch family has grown to over 100, supporting a nationally ranked Division 1 travel team, three home teams, a recreational league, a men’s league and a thriving junior’s team. Additionally, thousands of dollars raised during Roller Derby Games and fundraisers have been given back to local charities over the last six years.

The Current Outlook:

After six years of providing leadership and hard work, Honey and Medusa have decided that they are ready for the next chapter in their life and are retiring from roller derby. This means that we as a league are stepping up to chart a new course and save our beloved Derby Depot home. We are really excited for the future and to share the plans that we have with you!

How You Can Help:

The Wasatch family as well as Ladies of the Lake Roller Derby call the Derby Depot Warehouse home. In order to support roller derby in Salt Lake City, we feel that the Warehouse is essential as it provides a dedicated practice space and event venue all in Salt Lake City. Due to the change in leadership we are signing a new lease for the warehouse and need to raise money to cover the deposit and additional funds for two months rent to allow the league focus on revised and vibrant business plan, creating thrilling events and planning community activities for 2015!
