Restore Seba

I'm a 25-year-old teacher and graduate student in New York City raising money to save my 4-month-old puppy, Seba (pronounced seh-bah). Seba is a bridle shepard mix I adopted from a shelter about two months ago. When I adopted him, I signed a pledge to love and care for Seba for life. I'm trying to fulfill that promise.

On Saturday, August 29, at 4:55pm, Seba was run over by a pickup truck in NJ.  He and I had just arrived at a friend's house for a doggie playdate. His excitement getting the better of him, Seba dodged my attempt to leash him and dashed into the street. As I processed the situation, shock sheathed my tongue. By the time I screamed "Stop!", Seba was already letting out painful cries for help, blood pouring from his hind leg.

At Westfield Vetinary Group (WVG), Seba was stabilized as triage staff assessed the damage. Eventually, a Dr. Zamora informed me that both hind legs were badly hurt. Without x-rays, she could tell Seba needed surgeries that the office was not able to perform. I would have to transport Seba to Animal Specialty Center (ASC) in Yonkers, NY.  I brought up concerns about paying for all the services and Dr. Zamora could only point me to Care Credit, a credit service which approved me at a $4000 limit

9 hours later, I left Seba in ASC's Intensive Care Unit. He has undergone several x-rays and medications, all of which has amounted to $3700. Seba has a fractured hip, femur, and possibly tarsus in left hind leg. He also has extensive degloving on his right hind leg.

Doctors say that Seba is going to need a lot of treatment. His bandaging alone will cost in the thousands, not to mention at least two surgeries on his fractures, which they estimate will cost $8000-$9000.

I would like to keep Seba. I have developed a bond with him that won't allow me to put him down -- not without a fight. At the same time, I fear that's what the near future might hold for Seba. Unfortunately, I can't afford these costs on my own. I thought that opening a Care Credit account would help, but vetinary medicine costs are more vicious that I initially imagined...

Please consider supporting me in supporting Seba. I would be eternally grateful for your generosity.

UPDATE (Aug 31): Surgeons say that Seba only needs the surgery on his femur, dropping the total expected costs by thousands. Seba will have to get rebandaged on a daily basis for some time, until his degloving wounds no longer reveal bone and tissue. The good news is, he can come home, living a very dormant life until he is 100% better.
