The story of a community/high school track renovation:
Welcome to Octorara High School, a rural public school located in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. The Octorara High School track has not been resurfaced in close to 25 years. As a result, the track surface and the foundation below are in such a state of disrepair that the high school track team has not been permitted to host a home track meet in almost four seasons. In addition, the track surface is so hard, and uneven in some spots, that even as our athletes train to compete at other area schools, they often develop injuries here at home from the impact on their feet and joints.
As part of the ongoing efforts of the Octorara Community Stadium Task Force, our sub-committee was given an estimate of $350,000 to renovate the track, foundation and all. The Octorara School District does not currently have the money to fund the renovation. As such, a dedicated group of parents & coaches are spearheading the movement to raise the funds.
Presently, our fundraising efforts, outside of this GoFundMe campaign, have put $60,000.00 in our bank account and we are working hard to raise an additional $40,000.00 by December 2016. We know of no other schools that have had their property upgraded by a volunteer effort.
