Hello all!
My name is Sara Sarmiento and I am a 16 year old high school sophomore from Miami, Florida.
I had the opportunity of attending the South Florida Leadership Seminar for Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY for short) in South Florida. HOBY ’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
During this four-day seminar I was allowed to participate in the efforts to feed 10,080 hungry children along with the Feeding Children Everywhere organization, I was taught several goal-setting techniques, instructed as to what steps should be taken to achieve those goals, and overall inspired to make a difference in the world through the succeessful creation of several non-profit organizations.
My dreams are big, and my ambitions are not common for average 16 year olds, but with this fund, I would be able to attend the HOBY World Leadership Congress in Chicago, Illinois for 2015. At this Congress I would receive further instruction as to what steps should be taken to create my non-profits and change the world with my own initiative. I'm a big fish from a small pond, and with the skills I'd learn at the World Leadership Congress I would guarantee to dedicate a life of service to the entire world.
My long term goal is to create my own non-profit organization where I can provide uniforms, text books, pencils, and other school supplies to orphaned children living in my home country of Colombia, who would otherwise not have enough resources to receive appropriate education. In my adult life I would like to receive a degree in Reconstructive Dental Surgery in order to establish my own practice, and venture on missions to the third world in order to colunteer my skills towards those who cannot afford these services otherwise.
This $2,000.00 fund would cover the $1,675.00 fee for registration into the conference, and the round-trip flights from Miami to Chicago where the congress will be held. However, this fund is also a direct investment into the youth and leaders of today, who can change the world now, and in the future. As cheesy as it may sound, I know I can make a difference, and I want to make that difference now.
Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated, as I know that a middle-class family like mine, with another child to sustain, two college savings accounts to maintain, and living expenses to pay for, does not have $2,000.00 to spare to send their daughter to a week-long congress in Chicago where she'll learn about changing the world through servicing her community. As much as they would love to, it is too much to ask for from my parents, so I'm seeking help elsewhere; and elsewhere, in this case, is you.
Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated by my entire family, aswell as myself. I promise to be an outstanding ambassador, and a dedicated HOBY alumn.
