Safehouse Ministries, Inc is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Youngstown, Ohio that operates a residential facility for youth. Safehouse is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and accepts children from all 88 counties throughout the state. We currently have kids from 16 different counties and we are close to accepting our 400th kid in the history of the organization.
These youth are placed in our facility three ways; first (and most common) is by Children Services, second by Juvenile Court, and third is by direct placement. They are placed into our care for behavior issues, addiction, and/or criminal charges. The youth stay at our facility 24/7 until their program ends (anywhere from 90 days to 2 years). While at Safehouse the youth are provided group and individual therapy, education, and independent living skills. Safehouse has been in operation since 2005 and has operated out of two different hospitals. Even though this has worked for us over the last 10 years the type of kids we are getting are much different and we have out grown that atmosphere. Safehouse wants to make the living areas for our youth the best in the state. It is our goal to build 4 different "Pod" houses (2 for boys and 2 for girls), one main multi purpose builidng for the school, gymnasium, and eating areas, and one main office building. In doing this, the new facility will provide a better atmosphere for therapy and rehabilitation.
