Sibaltan Heritage College Scholarships

Donation protected

Greetings from Palawan!

Sibaltan, Palawan is a lovely and peaceful place, with a vibrant Cuyunon heritage that it has been actively sharing with visitors to their village.

They have recently finished a cultural museum - the only museum within five hours in any direction. And, their next effort is to help the junior members of the Sibaltan Heritage Council to attend college.

Through a Museums Connect grant, they have $1,500 USD to provide in scholarships. This amount may not sound like much, but it will actually cover a full year of tuition for three students.

When they opened the scholarship up, they received nine applicantions, which means six students won't receive any funding. I am trying to raise enough to match what the grant is providing with individual donations.

Here's your opportunity to change a life forever. Your gift will enable a student who could never afford to go otherwise to attend college.

Give $5 to $50: Awesome - you've just supplied several weeks of college education! You'll get a heartfelt thank you email from me.

Give $51 to $99: For this amazing contribution, you'll receive a thank you letter from your Sibaltan Heritage Council scholar.

Give $125: That's half a semester! Super awesome! Your thank you letter will come with a Palawan care package, featuring treats like dried mangoes and cashews, in a traditional bag woven from palm leaves and pandan grass.

Give $250: Thank you for underwriting an entire semester of college! The impact of your gift will ripple out forever.

The Sibaltan Heritage Council Backstory
In Phase One of their museum project, the Sibaltan Heritage Council built a traditional Cuyonon home - a bamboo structure with a thatch roof made of Nipa palm - and filled it with all the items that one might find in a Cuyonon home 100 years ago. They've welcome hundreds of tourists from the Philippines and around the world since they opened in December 2012.

All scholarship donors will be warmly welcomed with FREE admission to the Balay Cuyunon museum should they ever happen to be in El Nido, Palawan. ;)
