About Rural Soul
Rural Soul is a musical instruction organization with two studio locations in upstate New York. Founded in May 2012, local music educators Katy Svatek and Chelsie Henderson set out with a mission of "encouraging the musical soul of our rural haven.” The instructors strive to share the joy of music with people of all ages and backgrounds, and believe that we must band together to support the arts in our communities, in our country, and in our world.
What we do
Katy and Chelsie, along with other area musicians, offer instrumental and vocal private and group lessons, as well as other interesting group workshops. Private and group lessons include voice, piano, all brass instruments, all woodwind instruments, all string instruments, acoustic guitar, piano accordion, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, and percussion.
Rural Soul is driven to make music accessible to EVERYONE. We have collaborated with community not-for-profit organizations to offer free music programs such as a summer "Musical Boot Camp," a morning of drumming at the Summer Youth Program, and "Rural Soul Drumming and Movement" series which highlighted three different regions of the world. We have hosted Teen Musician Showcases, Open Mics, World Music workshops, and other local music concerts at various area venues.
Rural Soul blossoms with ideas for future musical endeavors, but we need the community's help. Our list of instrument needs surpasses what some families are able to afford, and what the instructors are able to afford. While we have discussed at length the possibility of becoming a not-for-profit organization, the need for certain instruments to keep our programs going is imminent.
Your contributions will go toward:
-Purchasing instruments (for use in instruction and to have on hand for students to try/borrow)
-Funding new programs
*Children's African Drumming Ensemble
*Chamber Music program
*Beginning Orchestra
-Music for aforementioned ensembles
-Music stands
-Scholarship Funds
Anything you are able to contribute to our GoFundMe campaign is greatly appreciated! The kick off for our ongoing fundraiser is on Halloween and will go until mid-December. Anyone who donates $25 or more will be invited to attend a future concert by the aforementioned ensembles for FREE.
