WOOF!!
HI! My name is Rocky. I am a 2 year old English Bulldog/Pit Bull mix. I have recently been given a second chance by my Dads who rescued me from the MSPCA in Boston, Massachusetts. I am a very handsome and well behaved boy who's sole purpose is to provide the all the love and kisses that I can give. I am being trained as a service dog to provide comfort and support to my Dads and everyone I meet. Go ahead, try not to smile bigger than me. My favorite activities include going for long walks and road trips, giving big wet slobbery kisses and sleeping cuddled up in bed (warning: I am a very loud snorer.)
As you can hear in the video, I am unusually loud for a dog when I breathe. This is due to a condition that commonly occurs in dogs of similar breeds called an elongated soft palate. My elongated palate blocks my airways, essentially suffocating me in myself, unless I breathe twice as hard to unblock my airways. I combat this by taking deep heavy breaths which sound like I am growling; not a great first impression for people and other dogs. The surgery is routine and I am expecting to go into the good hands at Angell Animal Hospital this June.
This condition prevents me from being able to be fully active and begin to face shortness of breath and heavy wheezing gasps if I get too excited. Do you know what it is like for a dog not to be able to run? Or needs to be soothed and calmed down when I meet a new friend because I am so excited to give endearing love? These simple traits of being a dog are challenging for me every day because it was how I was born.
With the help of my Dads, I come to you asking for help and support with making my dreams come true of being able to be the dog I am meant to be. Without this surgery, my condition will cause much strain on my body and heart, potentially limiting my life span.
Your generosity will be more than just a gift to help me have my surgery, but it will be one which will enhance my life and allow me to give back
