This started as a simple idea. John's aunt and uncle, for reasons of their own and because they are truly kind and generous, told John that while he and Ric were away from home for a week, they were going to sneak into their home and do some repairs and remodeling work.
That led to the idea of a few local friends helping out with some of the lifting, building, etc.
That led to finding a way that non-local friends could participate. The idea was, "hey, if all the people that have been treated as family at Casa John and Ric kicked in $10-20, we could do so much more in terms of home improvement." And a GoFundMe campaign strategy was hatched.
And that led to the last piece, Angela Lee, the producer/director of the film "From Fat To Finish Line" is also the producer of a reality show called "LogHeads" that airs on the DIY Network. Angela and her studio partner, Jennifer Roe, have been trying to develop a new show - think Extreme Home Makeover but with friends and family involved in the project. When they heard about Susan and Tim's plan, they decided that the project (and story) would be perfect for their show.
Before you get a series approved, you have to film and sell a pilot. Before you get a pilot financed, you create a "sizzle reel." It's sort of a teaser for what the show will be. Casa John and Ric is going to be the star of the sizzle reel and... if the stars align and things work out... the show's pilot.
As of now there are dozens of volunteers. Here we are raising the funds to buy supplies and hire a couple of professionals like a plumber and an electrician. As we hit financial milestones we'll be able to add projects to the list.
