RICKS FIGHT BACK FROM PARALYSIS

On Dec 27, 2017 our lives changed.  We were forced to deal with yet another tragedy.  My husband, my best friend, father to our children and self employed bread winner, woke up to find himself paralyzed from the waist below. Despite the countless MRI's and Lumbar Punctures and Plasma Exchanges, he remains the same, in bed or in a wheelchair and unable to walk , drive or work. The doctors have tested for everything under the sun and have told him, the wheel chair is his prognosis.  They have diagnosed him with Transverse Myelitis which is an inflammation of both sides of one section of the spinal cord. As of now he is still in hospital doing rehab daily still paralyzed and  unable to move his lower extremities, and will be on auto immune medications indefinitely. This neurological disorder often damages the insulating material covering nerve cell fibers. To date there is NO KNOWN CURE.

The emotional toll will continue to be a part of our lives.  But now we are faced with the cost to renovate our home to be handicap-accessible including a  washroom , wheel chair ramps and lifts and a handicap-accessible vehicle, and on-going therapy. It's a humbling experience to use this avenue,  but it has become necessary.  We still pray and hope for answers and recovery, but we are left to prepare for his permanent return home.  For those of you that know Rick, know that he is selfless and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone, especially his loved ones and friends.  I am counting on the good he's displayed in his life to be returned 10- fold.
