I am the mother of a forty-five year old daughter who has been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy.
At the age of seventeen she was diagnosed with a muscle disorder called “Polymyositis” and for twenty five years she was tested and treated with – Prednisone, Prednisolone, Methatrexate, Imuran, Cellcept, Cytoxin, Embrel and Intravenously administered immunoglobulin (IVIG), neither of which stopped the deterioration of muscles…she has become progressively weaker.
Each doctor treated her for a while but ended by saying that they could treat her and not experience some form of success.
In the spring of 2013, I took her to the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas where once again she went through a series of painful test. This is where she was diagnosed with “some form” of Muscular Dystrophy but after being tested to determine which strain of Muscular Dystrophy – the doctor decided she no longer wanted to treat her.
So now, I am looking for help from someone out there who might be able to not only recommend some type of treatment but help us find a diagnosis.
She is employed by the St. James Parish School System as a Secretary. She needs assistance with daily living activities and being driven to and from work. This I have done for many years --- now I am physically unable to lift her and her wheelchair. However, there is a homeless young lady who she took in. This “angel in disguise” does these things for us. However, I feel this is for a limited time and I need help.
Because of her weakened state, she really needs a special equipped room for a physically challenged person. I need to bring her back home but my house is not large enough or equipped to fit her needs. She also needs a specially equipped van to travel back and forth to work. Is there someone out there who can assist us? Is there someone who can point us in the correct direction to obtain the equipment and services that she needs? My earnest plea is that you can help me, help her .
