Desmond Willis Memorial Fund

Donation protected

Desmond Willis was the son of a friend of ours.  His life was tragically taken far too early by a member of the Jefferson Parish Police Department in the New Orleans area.  His mother is constantly being harassed by the local media to give interviews when she is trying to simply mourn the loss of her child.  As if that were not tragic enough, the local media and Jefferson Parish Police Department have turned his death into a complete assault on his character.  The Sheriff actually opened his press conference by playing videos that Mr. Willis had posted on social media in order to show the public why his shooting was justified.  It is a sickening character assassiniation and yet another tragedy in the long line of young Black men having their lives taken far too early by the police.

With everything we have seen recently with the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Walter Scott and now Mr. Willis, we are in a time where young Black men are under assault by local police departments.  It is my mission at the moment to at least make sure Mr. Willis' family has a little bit of extra money to properly take care of their son's burial and any other additional costs that will result from his untimely death.

I thank you for reading this and I hope you can find it in your heart to donate whatever you can.  Not only will the money help Mr. Willis' family in their time of grieving and need, but it will also send a message that you, like me and so many others, have seen enough young Black men die at the hands of the police.  Your donation will send a message that the time for change has come.

Thank you.
