"Revive our Rec" is a volunteer community group working to create a worthy 'Playscape' for children at the Broadstairs Memorial Recreation Park
The play area in Broadstairs Rec was pitiful. It's a lovely green space, central to many homes, schools and the station, but the park was underused and neglected. A group of mums decided that the children and visitors of Broadstairs deserved an updated play area and started a campaign to ask the local council to do something about it.
After gaining 1,500 signatures in a petition and lots of negotiating with Thanet Disctrict Council, we were successful in our aim to provide new play equipment and a safe fenced off space that families could enjoy.
But, we still have work to do! We have been given a small amount of funding from Broadstairs Town Council and Kent County Council to provide seating and an internal inclusive path, but we still need a perimiter path around the park itself so that there is good access for wheelchairs and buggy users. We also want to provide older children a 'Trim Trail' to keep them acitve and fit as well as planting in the play area to add 'sensory play', to make it a more imaginative and inspiring place for children to be.
