Return2Haiti: Library & Preschool
Donation protected
Return 2 Haiti has a preschool and library/resource center in the rural town of Belle Anse Haiti. Our goal is to give the possibility of education and opportunity to the people, starting with the most disadvantaged.
Our library and resource center project is situated in Belle Anse, a coastal town in rural SouthEast Haiti. This library is the only public library in the region and will serve a population of approximately 60,000 adults and school children. We currently have an approximately 12' by 12' library space and want to expand it to include an adjacent room. The adjacent room is in need of complete renovation before it can house books and supplies.
We will be travelling with volunteers from the United States providing training and physical labor for those initial steps, to date, our building site is still in great need of repairs: replacement of the roof, flooring and ceiling; repair and painting of windows, doors and walls; and construction of shelving for the books. We also need to purchase library furniture for basic usage.
This library will serve both the public and the local schools. Area teachers will bring the children for educational activities, as their schools do not provide library services.
