Topic: The Resurrection of Unit 146
Members of Malden Firefighters Association are a non-profit organization that was established January 1st, 2017. This organization consists of active and non-active members of the Amherstburg Fire Department who would like to further give back to the community by volunteering their time and effort in preserving a piece of the past.
Members of the Malden Firefighters Association have regained ownership of a 1946 Ford 1800-E Fire Truck. This truck was an active fire truck at the Malden Fire Department from 1946 to 1963. The Township of Malden was taken over by the Town of Amherstburg back in 1998 which lead to the Malden Fire Hall becoming one of Amherstburg’s latest Fire Hall. Today this Fire hall is known as Amherstburg Fire Station #3.
The fire truck is in need of a restoration project which members of the Malden Firefighters Association have taken the initiative to lead this project and bring this 1946 Ford 1800-E Fire Truck back to life. This project will be completed by the involved members by volunteering their time, skills and ability to the community by hosting various local fundraisers and events within the Town of Amherstburg.
A part of this restoration project is to also rebuild this trucks original home which is currently located at 7860 County Road 20. This location is the current home of the original Malden Fire Hall which is currently in a state of disrepair. The end goal of this project is to house the fully restored Unit 146 at this location.
Members of the Malden Firefighters Association would like to take one giant leap into preserving the past by restoring Unit 146 along with the original Malden Fire Hall. The organization is kindly asking for any donations.
