Heritage Site Roof Needs Repair

Donation protected

Have you heard of the Underground Railroad?  Do you know about Canada's role in helping enslaved people obtain freedom?

Can you help us fix our roof? It's urgent!

Since 1975, the Amherstburg Freedom Museum has been educating the public about the tens of thousands of people who fled to Canada to escape slavery via the Underground Railroad. The museum contains scores of curated exhibitions, rare documents and unique artifacts and is open year round.

Part of it is housed in the former Nazrey African Methodist Episcopal Church (est. 1848), a designated National Historic site.

The Church, however, is in urgent need of a new roof.  The existing roof is leaking and must be replaced immediately to preserve the integrity of the original flooring, pews and collected relics and artifacts.  The cost: $35,000.

We ask for your support in achieving our goal of raising funds for this urgent project. Time is of the essence due to the impending winter weather.

All donations are welcome. Gifts over $50- are rewarded with complementary passes to visit the museum.
