2nd Chance at Life *

Donation protected
On April 22, 2015 my mother was admitted into the hospital for severe jaundice and shortness of breath. From that day on it has been a roller coaster. As days went by my mother's medical condition got worse. Her liver began to fail at a rapid rate also a blood infection occurred. She was given high doses of medication to fight the infection and keep her liver going (at a slow pace). Her body slowly healed for the infections. Literally from one day to the next her Kidneys failed as well. At this point “Encephalopathy”-(a form of altered mental status including confusion and loss of memory) began. My mother wasn't herself anymore, and it was the absolute worst seeing her that sick!.

She was placed at #1 on the liver transplant list. My mother was placed in the ICU for 24hour dialysis, due to her kidneys failing and critical state. She held the #1 spot on the liver list for a full two weeks! Offer after offer came in a total of 8! My mother is 5 feet tall. I say this because the height of a person is a big factor on how big is liver is. My mother needed to get the perfect “small” liver, that would fit her small body structure. Most of the liver offers that came in were “too big” or “not perfect” for her. We went through an emotional roaster coaster waiting for her perfect liver from the perfect donor! We were put on standby many times and were a no go. My mother began to lose hope because she was so sick and tired of being in such critical state. She says now, she had “one foot in the door, before heaven”.

I waited and waited for “The Call” and that, amazing and wonderful call came on May 16, 2015! The call that my mom was a GO for her transplant! The Perfect match and the Perfect Liver was on it's way from the perfect donor! And not a moment to soon, because her state was at it's worse. I was beyond excited to tell my mom that today(5/16/15) was her day. She would get her life back! She doesn't remember much of being in the hospital but I kept all my facebook statuses to show her. I had so many friends and family praying for her and a speedy recovery. She spent six hours in the operating room. When I was able to see her, I could already see and change in her status. Her color was coming back and all her lab results were already showing that her new liver was working for her. We don't know much about the donor yet, but what we do know is, he was a younger male. He registered as a donor when he first received his driver license. His decision to be an organ donor, not only saved my mom's life but many others. “Thank You” xoxo donor RIP.

My mother was finally release from the hospital a month after she was admitted. She still has to have dialysis done three times a week, until her kidneys begin to function as they did before. Doctors says that will happen in time, With that being said, all of you know being in a hospital is very expensive. Although she does have insurance, we are having a tough time pay for all her co-pays, medication, dialysis travel expenses, living expenses and many bills that are piling in. It has become stressful, she is currently not working due to her medical condition. With her permission I'm setting up this GoFund account to help her get back on her feet.
She was given a second chance at life! All amounts of donations are very much appreciated, and continued prayers for her speedy recovery.
