UPDATE: Thank you so much to everyone who has helped Jim Rankin and Heather Rush! They are so grateful for the love and support you have shown them. We are some of Jim and Heather's closest friends (Katherine, Jacklyn, Monica, Ryan, Rob, and Carrie). They are going through extreme emotional and financial hardship due to difficulties with the US immigration process and we are hoping you can help support them.
Heather, a Seattle native, moved to Australia in February of 2012 to attend graduate school. As fate would have it, she fell in love with a wonderful man, a New Zealander named Jim. In the last two years, they've had an adorable baby named Freddy (now 20 months old) and said "I do" in a beautiful ceremony in Fiji, surrounded by their friends and family. These two are some of kindest, most gracious people you could ever meet. Together, they are a great team and wonderful parents to Freddy.
This summer, Heather and their son Freddy moved to Seattle so that Heather could start to launch her business and begin to build a forever home for their sweet family. Jim's visa was expected to go through in a matter of days and every expectation was that Jim would be joining them soon. Together, the three of them have planned to build a life in Seattle, surrounded by friends and family and pursuing the careers they've always wanted. For multiple reasons, Seattle must be their home over anywhere else.
Months of delays ensued on Jim's visa application and just recently, due to a technicality, Jim's visa to allow him to come to the US was denied.
Jim and Heather are experiencing extreme emotional and financial hardship. Any parent can imagine the difficulty of being a single parent or unable to see your child for months on end (it's been 4 months already). They now need to hire a lawyer to help them reapply to get Jim a visa to the US, a process anticipated to cost thousands of dollars. Heather, Jim, and Freddy also dream of all finding a way to be together this Christmas.
The next months will be very difficult for this family as they navigate mountains of paperwork and the stress and emotional toll of being apart. These are two wonderful people who need the support (on all levels!) of friends and family more then ever. And if you are able, a few bucks would go a long way towards helping them travel to be together this Christmas and to continue to fight to be together permanently. From the bottom of our hearts (and theirs), thank you, thank you, thank you for any support!
