As you know gun violence is a problem that seems to be running rampant in our nation. Currently beginning in January of 2015 there have been 24,757 total shootings thus far, and of those shot 6,326 have died. In Chicago alone we currently have 1,864 shot with 271 deaths. As a Chicagoan, I am proud of many things, we are home to the current Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Black Hawks not to mention various other Championship teams and dynasties as well! In addition, in my humble opinion, we own one of the most unparalleled skylines this nation has seen!
Sadly, our reputation in the news is something much different than what I would like to showcase or be known for. Please, take a moment to watch the pitch video. Done on as modest of a budget as I could gather, it is about this grand city and our plight to change the tides.
THE MISSION
When we think of the issue of gun violence we usually look at it from the problem itself. "Gun violence is horrible and should be stopped!" "Tisk tisk tisk!" When we see or hear a news blurb on the tv, or computer it sometimes turns into something typical or run-of-the-mill. "God, who was it that got shot this time?!" The truth of the matter is that each and every story is unique. Each victim has a story, and each story is filled with family members and loved ones that filled this person's life up with experiences. You see, if you think of it most family units live in a home.
Whether that home be a house, apartment, or just a room, they have a place that is filled with personality and everything that makes their household unique. I want to examine what happens to that house when a member is taken away. Is a "house" still a "home" after losing one or more to gun violence?
WHO OR WHAT IS THE FILM'S FOCUS?
The focus of the film is to put our lens on Chicago gun violence but in a drastically different way. First off, I want to say that all that is going on here in Chicago is being mirrored in several other places in America, so the situation is not unique. If you can think of a family unit living in a house together, they make that house everything it is character wise. Family, friends, and visitors, that come bare witness to that family's bond, and how it is interacting with them. No matter the strength of the bond, it always is present in any household.
This film examines how that family dynamic or metaphorically speaking, how the “house” or “home” is altered by the absence of a loved one due to the tragedy of gun violence.
My film is about gun violence from the victims’ point of view. Are they able to recover? How do they bounce back? How have things changed for them? How do they continue life afterwards? There are so many questions and I am prepared to be the soundboard for my fellow Americans to speak their piece in a way that is much more holistic than a 30 second news blurb.

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?
There are several hats that I wear myself as director. I shoot video, film, and take still photography, interview, and use Photoshop among other things. However to make this film the best possible I will need to take off a few of these hats and employ other professionals. Some of the people I have in mind have worked with me on my bigger jobs so I have no doubt they will do an awesome job and give me a greater opportunity to concentrate on the story itself. Fairness wise though I must pay everyone their rate and this is what makes sets move smoothly and things happen in a timely manner.
